It was an exciting two days of club golf in the NCCGA South Region, as the Auburn club golf team came from behind to win the team title in the first regional of the semester. Lee House of the Alabama B team won the individual title in a scorecard playoff.
One of the biggest storylines was the weather, as rain and wind wreaked havoc during the tournament at RTJ Silver Lakes in Gadsden, Alabama. After his final round, medalist Lee said, “Day one conditions were pretty brutal in the rain and wind so it was a good test of golf”. House managed to shoot 78 in a driving rain all day, his second round improved with the weather as he shot a 73. Tanner Farr of Kennesaw State club golf matched him shot for shot as he shot 77-74, but ended up losing in the playoff.
Auburn Club team celebrating their regional victoryAuburn completed a valiant comeback on Sunday shooting six scores in the 70’s, including a 73 from super senior Scott Barranco and a 74 from freshman Pierce Fox. The club shaved 22-strokes off their Day 1 score to edge out the victory of the Alabama A team.
Tennessee, the defending regional champions, finished in third place. Followed by Kennesaw State, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Alabama (B), and Emory.
Auburn club president Chase Hawthorne went on to say that he is “extremely proud of [Auburn] for coming out on top and never giving up.” He also stated that “RTJ Silver Lakes was an incredible course” and that he wanted to thank them for supporting club golf and hosting the event.
The second regional tournament of the season will take place on October 24/25 at Canyon Ridge Golf Club in Rising Fawn, Georgia.
