It’s that time of the season when Nationals bids are being distributed across the country. Hopefully everybody had a great fall season, and we look forward to seeing many of you at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach. With only one week of regional tournaments left, we are in the home stretch so gear up for one last battle! Here's how we see the final tournaments of the season shaking out.
Desert
Arizona State needs to put up some low scores to have a fighting chance at getting a bid for the National Championship in a region that's dominated by Grand Canyon. The battle will take place at Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson, AZ. Will ASU kick out someone else and earn a Nationals bid? GCU has played well this season...again… so they just need to play their game and mentally prepare for a chance to repeat as National Champions.
Indiana
The University of Notre Dame currently leads the Indiana region ahead of both Purdue’s A and B teams. Purgatory Golf Club will be hosting the region this weekend in Noblesville, Indiana. The leaders will be competing against Butler, DePauw, Indiana, and Indiana Southeast. It will be a cold and wet weekend so hopefully players can stay warm and dry.
North Carolina
The UNC-Wilmington Seahawks are the team to watch in the North Carolina region this weekend at Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, NC. They are currently ranked 1st in Zone 4 and could grab a bid to the National Championship this weekend. The question is if any other university from the region will get a bid to the National Invitational. We’ll see how bad the players here want to move on.
North
Washington County Golf Club will host the North region's third and final tournament of the season. The University of Wisconsin has locked up a spot at Nationals after sweeping the first two tournaments, and have chosen to sit this one out. This leaves the door open for Marquette, UW-Milwaukee, and UW-Stout as they try to play their way into the Nationals field.
Southwest
The Southwest region will be playing in their second regional tournament this weekend at Los Robles Greens Golf Course in Thousand Oaks, California. San Diego state currently leads the region by 8 strokes over the Golf Academy of America at Carlsbad. UCLA, the University of San Diego, and Pepperdine are also competing this weekend.
Texas
With a stacked and fully loaded region, teams from Texas will head to Cottonwood Creek Golf Course this weekend to battle for the regional crown. This is the third tournament of the semester for most of these teams, and as it stands Baylor is leading the region with 9 points with Texas right behind with 6 points.
