Where college students go for golf

NCCGA Honors Top Club Golfers

By David Urmacher

NextGenCollegiate and the NCCGA are pleased to announce National University and Jorge Betancor as the National Team and Player of the Week, respectively, for the weekend of Feb. 22-23.

Competing in the first Regional Tournament across the country this semester, National turned in a dominating performance in the Southwest Region.

As a team, they finished at 68-over par in two rounds at Sterling Hills CC, finishing a full 30 strokes ahead of the second-place finisher, UCLA.

The team received strong performances from all eight golfers it brought to the tournament, with all 16 rounds coming in at 86 or below.

And Betancor was the best golfer on the best team all weekend.

After double-bogeying his first hole of the tournament, Betancor rebounded to bogey only two holes during his next 17. He finished Round 1 at even par, after he played his second nine at 1-under par.

POW Week 1

A 38-39 for 77 (+6) on the second day put him five strokes ahead of the second place golfer and helped him pick up the Medalist honors in the first NCCGA Regional Tournament of the Year.

The Southwest resumes play in Regional No. 2 on April 5-6 at the Champions Club at the Retreat in Corona, Ca.
