This year's Nationals will have a slightly different structure as there will be both a [National Championship](https://nextgengolf.org/fall-2017-nccga-national-championship-paiute-golf-resort/) and the inaugural [National Invitational tournament](https://nextgengolf.org/fall-2017-nccga-national-invitational-tournament-paiute-golf-resort/). In total, 344 students from 60+ teams will come to compete, making it the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country.  [Read More](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/fall-2017-nccga-nationals-at-paiute-golf-resort) Topics: [#ClubGolf](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/topic/clubgolf) [![College Golf](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/hubfs/Villanova%20at%20NCCGA%20National%20Championship%20Fall%202017.png)](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/villanovas-stahle-looks-to-capture-a-national-championship) College Golf / November 27, 2017 [Villanova's Stahle looks to capture a National Championship](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/villanovas-stahle-looks-to-capture-a-national-championship) ## [Villanova's Stahle looks to capture a National Championship](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/villanovas-stahle-looks-to-capture-a-national-championship) By [Mike Devlin](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/author/mike-devlin) - [Tweet](https://twitter.com/share) [![](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/hubfs/Villanova%20at%20NCCGA%20National%20Championship%20Fall%202017.png)](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/villanovas-stahle-looks-to-capture-a-national-championship)   Villanova club golf comes into the [National Championship](https://nextgengolf.org/fall-2017-nccga-national-championship-paiute-golf-resort/) ranked 7th in the country and is seemingly the darkhorse of this year's tournament. The Wildcats certainly wouldn't be in the position they are in without the leadership and strong play of senior Tyler Stahle.  Nova was able to capture both Philly regional tournaments this semester, Stahle being the medalist in both tourneys shooting a day-two score of 135 (-7) in the first and 140 (-2) in the second. The senior is now the NCCGA all-time leader in medalist finishes (8), 1 of 33 players all-time to record a hole-in-one in tournament play, T-4th in total eagles and is the all-time leader in leader in total birdies with 100. All things considered Stahle is arguably the most accomplished NCCGA player in history and seeks to add one more important piece to his resume: a National Championship.  [Read More](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/villanovas-stahle-looks-to-capture-a-national-championship) [![College Golf](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/hubfs/Arizona%20State%20Club%20Golf%20Team.png)](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/asu-looks-to-stay-hot-at-nationals) College Golf / November 14, 2017 [Sun Devils Look to Stay Red Hot In the Desert: ASU at Nationals](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/asu-looks-to-stay-hot-at-nationals) ## [Sun Devils Look to Stay Red Hot In the Desert: ASU at Nationals](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/asu-looks-to-stay-hot-at-nationals) By [Connor Brown](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/author/connor-brown) - [Tweet](https://twitter.com/share) [![](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/hubfs/Arizona%20State%20Club%20Golf%20Team.png)](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/asu-looks-to-stay-hot-at-nationals)   The Sun Devils have been red hot this season, winning back-to-back regional tournaments and finishing the season as the top ranked club golf team in the country with a scoring average differential of 1.55 strokes per round. Standing out for ASU this season has been newcomer Ben Harden who led the Sun Devils with a combined score of -13 under par for the two regionals. I was able to catch up Ben and ASU club president Teig Hauer and who are both gearing up for the [National Championship](https://nextgengolf.org/fall-2017-nccga-national-championship-paiute-golf-resort/) at the Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas. The University of Pittsburgh comes into the weekend as the favorite, as they have made it to nationals each of the last 9 semesters. This past spring the region was much more competitive than it has ever been, Pitt came in third place in the first regional but was able to rebound in the second tournament to barely secure a spot at Hot Springs. Evan Hussey of Saint Louis University and David Lee-Tolley of Washington University have also taken trips to the National Championship in Fall 2016 and Spring 2016, respectively. Tulsa took home Team of the Week honors with their impressive victory in the Ozark region, winning by 8 strokes. Back-to-back national champs Georgia squeaked by in the South region winning by just 1 stroke over Alabama.  Lee Brooks of Alabama takes NCCGA player of the week honors after firing a 2 day score of 141 (-3.)  The Twin Cities Region saw some incliment weather forcing some of the field to play 36 holes on Sunday. In the end, all players were able to finish and the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities took home the glassware winning by a whopping margin of 27 strokes. We look forward to the scores of Week 2 as we have 8 regions that will take to the course. See student leader picks at the bottom of this article for team favorites going into the weekend. Teams from the Ozark, South, and Twin Cities regions will all attempt to take their first step towards Vegas. We anticipate these will be three of the more competitive regions in the country as 4 of the top 12 teams in the [preseason rankings](https://blog.nextgengolf.org/college-golf/fall-2017-preseason-rankings) will be teeing off (#1 Georgia, #3 Alabama, #5 OK State, and #12 Minnesota). However, for the first time in NCCGA history, Zone based qualifying will be brought into play. This means that not only will teams be vying for [National Championship](https://nextgengolf.org/fall-2017-nccga-national-championship-paiute-golf-resort/) & [National Invitational Tournament](https://nextgengolf.org/fall-2017-nccga-national-invitational-tournament-paiute-golf-resort/) bids against their own region but other regions in the country, too. The Ozark and the South Region both feed into Zone #4, so members of the Colonial, North Carolina, and Pacific should pay a little extra attention this weekend.
