Door Open for Club Golf Teams in Southeast

By Austin Dillard

With the Southeast Region now less than a month away from kicking off our season down south in Hilton Head, it's time to make some predictions for who will come out on top!

With defending region champion East Tennessee State remaining in the South region, there should be some tight competition in our newly formed Southeast region. With Clemson placing second at both tournaments in the spring, they are likely to be a factor once again this season. The Gamecocks down in Columbia should be in the mix this fall as well after taking the first regional tournament last semester. The addition of UGA, Georgia Southern, and the College of Charleston is likely mix things up in the battle for national qualifying points. Any of these teams could really play a part, given that the state of Georgia has been a hot bed for producing great golfing talent in recent years.

It will also be interesting to see if any of the teams that struggled at times last season will break out of that mold and present a challenge to both Clemson and USC. Here is my predicted order of finish at our first tournament in Hilton Head:

1) Clemson

2) South Carolina

3) Georgia Tech

4) UGA

5) College of Charleston

6) Emory

7) Georgia Southern

8) The Citadel

9) Kennesaw State

10) Furman
