Where college students go for golf

Week 7 Preview & Picks

By NCCGA Student Leaders

Time flew by and this spring’s Nationals remaining bids will be given out after this week. With numerous cases of unfortunate weather systems preventing many of our regions from competing on their original schedules, our staff was left with pushing the competitions to later dates. This wasn’t the easiest process but everything is still working out. Nationals are next week! Get ready!!

Atlantic

The Atlantic region will be playing Boulder Creek Golf Club in Streetsboro, Ohio this weekend. Last weekend in West Virginia, Robert Morris took first place by 21 strokes with West Virginia University and University of Pittsburgh behind them. Oberlin and Slippery Rock along with Robert Morris’s B team will also be competing again this weekend.

Capitol:

Coming off a very impressive performance last week, the University of Maryland looks to keep things rolling into this week with a chance to secure a bid to Nationals next week. Little Bennett Golf Course in Clarksburg, MD will play host to the Capitol region's final tournament this semester. The Naval Academy and George Washington will also be competing and looking to dethrone the Terps.

Indiana:

Heading into the second regional tournament for the Indiana region will prove to be quite suspenseful as the Hoosiers still have a chance to grab a bid to St. Louis. This week’s tournament will take place at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. Perhaps a sense of “been there, done that” from traveling to the same location as last regional tournament’s course host will give the Hoosiers an extra level of confidence this week.

Midwest:

Fieldstone Golf Club will host the first regional tournament. With an honorable finish at Nationals in Las Vegas, the Wolverines are ready to head into the Spring season continuing their dominance after last season. It’s going to be a battlefield out there  with five teams competing!

Northeast:

The Conklin Players Club in Conklin, NY will be the site of what promises to be a competitive regional tournament this week. Niagara escaped regional tournament 1 last week with just a 7 shot victory as St. Bonaventure was right behind them. SUNY Cortland will also be chasing Niagara this weekend. Keep a close watch on this tournament and see who will come out on top as they #swingforstlouis.

North:

Glen Erin Golf Club will host this week’s tournament which has a packed field and promises to be a competitive one. University of Wisconsin-Madison enters as the favorite after making an appearance at Nationals in the fall. Chasing them will be UW-Stout, UW-Oshkosh, Michigan Tech and other schools looking to take UW-Madison’s spot as the top dog of the North region.

Philadelphia:

Don’t make any calls yet! The Wildcats are ahead after a dub last weekend but don’t count out the Blue Hens. Inniscrone Golf Club in Avondale, Pennsylvania will host the second regional tournament and will reveal who will punch their ticket to St. Louis among many others who have already done so. However, the twist is the Blue Hens have half the drive the Wildcats do. Will this have an effect?
