Waterchase GC--7 teams met in Arlington, TX to begin “The Road to Myrtle Beach” by competing in the first of two NCCGA Texas Regional tournaments this fall. Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A & M, SMU, UT-Tyler, and Houston teed it up at Waterchase Golf Course (6900 yds. Par 72) on September 21-22. Sunny skies and light winds provided for great scoring conditions at this hazard filled, perfectly groomed golf course.

After the first round, Baylor emerged with a 5-shot lead after sophomore trio Chris Reina, Hogan Hudgins, and Matt Brugner fired rounds in the 70’s. TCU played well, finishing at 389. Due to darkness, Texas A&M and SMU had to finish their final holes on Sunday morning. Texas A & M came out with a score of 397, 12 shots behind the Bears.

Nearly every team improved their scores on Sunday. As scores started to roll in, it was clear that TCU, Baylor, and Texas A & M were going to stand alone at the top. Matt Brugner (Baylor & Texas Regional Coordinator) and Sam Hall put up solid rounds for the Bears with 74 and 76. TCU fought to make a comeback, shooting 5 rounds in the 70’s including a 73 (Ryan Sisco) and 74 (Cole Bradford). In the end, the comeback was not enough to stop the Baylor Bears. Chris Reina (So.) came in with an incredible 4-under-par 68 to lap the field for medalist. His 3 eagles on Day 2 led the Bears to their first ever regional tournament victory.
