Where college students go for golf

The season is upon us and a select few college golfers are at the pinnacle of their respective golf games right now. We had an incredible weekend in the NCCGA that included a playoff with two players finishing under par and a slew of other good scores across the nation. Here are your winners for the weekend of March 1-2 for NCCGA Team and Player of the Week.

The Central Region kicked off their Spring 2014 season at Payne Stewart Golf Club in Branson, Missouri. Payne Stewart has been rated the top course in Missouri by Golfweek.

The NCCGA South region kicked off its spring semester this past weekend at Silver Lakes, which is an outstanding Robert Trent Jones facility about an hour northeast of Birmingham, Ala. Silver Lakes has a unique layout with three nine hole courses: Mindbreaker, Backbreaker and Heartbreaker.

The Spring 2014 NCCGA season is finally upon us in the Northwest Region even though it doesn’t seem like it should be anywhere near us. The past two months we have had on and off snowfall with most of it coming in the past week. Luckily for us though, the courses we are playing have stayed fairly dry throughout all these storms coming through the Northwest.

Wake Forest University has been producing golfing legends for decades.

With names like Arnold Palmer, Webb Simpson, and Bill Haas swirling around, it is no secret that Wake knows a thing or two about good golf. For students on campus that want to be a part of this amazing tradition but do not quite have the scores to compete with the names mentioned above, the club golf team is the perfect fit.

The Spring 2014 Club Golf Season kicks off this weekend and it is going to be a quick and very cold, start.

The NCCGA Central Region is looking to grow in strength yet again this semester. This spring the Central will be adding the University of Iowa and Washington University in St. Louis as well as individuals from multiple schools around the region. The Central is looking to make the next step in becoming one of the strongest and biggest regions in the NCCGA.

NextGenCollegiate and the NCCGA are pleased to announce National University and Jorge Betancor as the National Team and Player of the Week, respectively, for the weekend of Feb. 22-23.

The South Region is improving and expanding by the semester. A region that contained only 6 teams last fall is looking to add 4 new teams this semester.

Continuing its mission of providing non-varsity college golfers opportunities to interact and compete on a regional level, NCCGA Southwest will start its first Regional Tournament on February 22nd at Sterling Hills Golf Club.

Yeah, yeah, I know. With the exception of the Desert Region and all those other lucky college golfers out West, the rest of us are stuck with this Polar Vortex thing. Fun stuff, right? Maybe if you enjoy skiing, yes. But for the rest of us, golfing isn't really an option during these cold, wintry times. Or is it?
