The Nextgengolf Summer Club Golf Tour got off to a hot start both literally as temperatures soared into the 90's and figuratively as a number of players scored in the mid 70's-80's in challenging windy conditions.
Leading the pack was Bryan Gorham of Bryant University with an impressive 76 which was good enough for first place over Nextgengolf intern and Syracuse Club Golf Team President Bram Berkowitz who also carded a 76 as he sharpened his game for Mass Qualifying later in the week. Finishing on top on the net side was Eric Sedransk of Babson whose 78 translated into a net 72 Nextgengolf Intern Josh Patriquin of Umass Boston whose 84 translated into a 72.

I hadn't been to Wayland CC in literally 10 years, and was very impressed with the generosity of Tom Quirk and his staff. They just hired a new greens keeper and are making strides to promote a culture of respect for the course. I've never seen a public course hand out divot tools for free and ask that people keep their bags off the tee box. I respect Wayland's efforts to do this. If a course gives away a divot tool and educates golfers how to use them, then the small amount of money they pay for the tools will be well worth it when the greens are healthy and smooth, and in the case of Wayland, fast (I was blowing putts 3-4 feet by consistently in my regular 9-hole match with Kris at NexGenGolf Tournaments)! At just shy of 6,000 yards Wayland is not the longest or frankly most difficult of courses; however, it's kept in GREAT shape, the staff is friendly, and the $3 hot dogs are amazing! As a reminder, Nextgengolf members can play this course for $20 during the week and $30 on weekends, saving $17 / round.

Upcoming NextGenGolf Tournament
We are changing up the format for our next event at Stonebridge Country Club in Southern New Hampshire (just over an hour from Boston) on June 23rd as we are having our first four-man scramble event. Stonebridge received a four star rating from Golf Digest and is the site of the 2013 New Hampshire Open, so this is definitely a track worth checking out! Find three friends and sign up here.
