Where college students go for golf

NCCGA Fall 2018 preseason rankings

By Oliver Mauk

Another NCCGA season is upon us, which means a chance for each university to prove themselves and earn a bid to Nationals in Myrtle Beach! Will Grand Canyon repeat as National Champions? Perhaps the Arizona State Sun Devils or the Georgia Bulldogs can bounce back? Either way, we're in for an exciting ride this fall, all culminating at Barefoot Resort November 16-18. Without further ado, here are your NCCGA preseason top 25.

NCCGA Preseason Poll- Fall 2018

1. Grand Canyon - The Lopes finally broke through with their first National Championship last semester. Coach John Wasson returns a good number of his players, and with the addition of some new guys this team is dangerous. They are the early favorites to repeat in Myrtle.

2. Florida - They have been a great team for many years, and nothing will change this fall. The Gators look to dominate the North Florida region and follow up their strong 3rd place finish from last seasons National Championship.

3. Texas - Another team with a high finish at the Championship last semester, the Longhorns look to keep moving forward and have a real shot at the title again this semester.

4. Michigan - The Wolverines lose their 5-year man Luke Stull, but look like a strong team from the Midwest region regardless. Michigan does a great job recruiting year after year, so expect some solid newcomers to contribute this fall.

5. GAA-Dallas - The Golf Academy of America Dallas consistently brings the strongest players of any GAA, and playing in the ultra-competitive Texas region forces them to show up for every tournament. Expect this team to have a good regional season and show up with a chance at Nationals.

6. Alabama - The heart of the South region, the Crimson Tide have qualified for every Nationals for as long as anyone can remember. Still in search of their first National Championship though, Alabama is hungry to put that last exclamation point on their resume.

7. Florida State - Even though FSU is ranked 7th, they are still the #2 ranked team in the North Florida region after UF. It will be a fun battle to see who can capture the tough North Florida region this semester.

8. Ohio State - The Ohio Valley is one of the NCCGA's strongest regions, yet is still dominated by the Buckeyes almost every semester. Miami of Ohio should be a good challenge for them this season though, so OSU will have to bring their A game to all 3 regional events.

9. Georgia - After winning two straight Championships, UGA failed to win either of the past two, although they were runner-up last semester. Georgia's experience being in contention in National Championships will prove to be decisive in their chances to get another trophy.

10. Arkansas - The Razorbacks finished 7th at last semester's Championship, and have a great chance to return to Nationals in Myrtle Beach.
