Where college students go for golf

Golf Academy of America – Dallas has dominated the NCCGA Texas region this Fall semester, winning both regional tournaments over other National qualifiers Baylor and Texas-Austin. The club enters the NCCGA National Championship as the #1 ranked team in the country.

The Georgetown University club golf team has come a long way since its creation only three years ago. After a slow start, struggling to recruit motivated players and play competitively, the team gained momentum in its fourth season and has been improving ever since. Club President Sean O’Neill attributes this progress to the creation of a “competitive but fun environment, where players are motivated to play as well as they can in every round of golf.”

It was late October, a couple weeks before the University of South Carolina club golf team's second NCCGA regional tournament when club president Evan Rodwell made a risky decision. He and his teammates bought plane tickets to San Antonio for the weekend of November 21^st-22^nd. The Gamecocks had not yet qualified for the Fall 2015 National Championship., as the second regional tournament wasn't for another two weeks. Rodwell was concerned if they waited until after the second tournament to book flights that they would be too expensive, so he decided to take the risk and make the purchase.

The University of Connecticut athletic teams have good memories in the state of Texas. In 2014 the men’s basketball team became the kings of March Madness by winning their fourth NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship in Texas. This weekend, the UConn club golf team travels to Texas to compete in the NCCGA National Championship at TPC San Antonio. They hope to continue the Husky tradition and leave Texas as champions.

It’s Friday the 13th and in one week the NCCGA National Championship will kick off down at TPC San Antonio in Texas. Although today is supposed to be unlucky, we thought we would show 13 reasons why teams heading into Texas will be lucky next week! Golfers are always particular about their equipment. Call it a routine or superstition or whatever you like; players are often reluctant to switch things up. But what about switching equipment to something that works? That is what many players are experiencing when they make the switch to Srixon’s Z-Star and Z-Star XV golf balls.

The eyes of the entire NCCGA were trained on Locust, North Carolina this past weekend, as the North Carolina Region wrapped up its second regional tournament of the semester. The event represented the last regional of the Fall 2015 semester, and cemented the National Championship field. At stake was the last automatic bid, and a deep and competitive field all vying for the spot.

TAMARAC, Fla. – Winds were gusting as high as 25 miles per hour as the second NCCGA South Florida Regional tournament began at the Woodlands Golf Club last week. As six teams teed it up, tournament one winner Keiser University was in position to secure a bid to club golf nationals with a victory.

You may have seen some action on the NCCGA Twitter account about the Fall 2015 National Championship Team Shop. Clubs that have qualified for the season ending championship at TPC San Antonio have the opportunity to show off why they deserve to represent their region later this month with custom shirts, jackets, golf balls, travel bags, backpacks, and more.

The Midwest Region had an excellent finish to the last regional tournament of the 2015 NCCGA season with a tight battle between Ferris State University, the University of Michigan, and Michigan State University. Although the tournament was short sided with one day completely canceled due to weather, the Midwest Region still played some great golf.

The second regional for the NCCGA North Florida Region was played at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida. The conditions were great for scoring as shown by UF Club Golf's Josh Dubberly’s opening round 68 and Blake Herschberger’s 2^nd round 69 as well as a lot of other good scores from all of the teams that were there. Blake Herschberger’s second round 69 propelled him to a 2 stroke win over teammate Josh Dubberly for the medalist honors.

Following a great weekend of club golf, NCCGA regional play for the fall season is complete in the Southeast Region, and a change at the top has been completed.

The Capitol Region enjoyed another competitive NCCGA tournament last weekend at Greystone Golf Course in White Hall, Maryland to close out the semester. Led by individual medalist Michael Barillo, the Maryland club golf team took home the team championship with a 2 day total of 799. Georgetown followed close behind with an 809 to take 2nd, and Towson rounded out the top 3 with an 817. The top 8 individuals were as follows:

Time flies when you’re having fun. It’s hard to believe it, but we are already halfway through the Fall 2015 NCCGA Season. The National Championship is now one month away. 11 club golf teams have already qualified for this season’s National Championship, which will be taking place at TPC San Antonio, and dozens of others are still fighting for an elusive bid.
