Everyone can use a little golf help

The Nextgengolf team is excited to share some of the big changes golfers will see next summer with the second season of the City Tour. We have spent the last couple months since the 2015 City Championship at Cog Hill collecting feedback, talking to players, evaluating new cities, and coming up with the best experience for all current and future members of the City Tour. Ready to see what we have in store for this summer?

Playing a round of golf takes over 4 hours and it is pretty common to get hungry on the course. This fall a number of NCCGA players asked to provide snacks and water to improve the 2016 season. I did some research on the golf snack market and came up with my top five snacks for the golf course. Please let me know your thoughts on these snacks and if you have any other suggestions. Hopefully we will have snacks at every Nextgengolf event in 2016. Happy snacking!

Last year, we were happy to take part in Nextgengolf's #GolfStache campaign, which raised over $500 for the Testicular Cancer Foundation. But we are even more excited to have a deeper involvement this year. Here at TCF, we are thankful to have an organization like Nextgengolf that helps not only bring in funds for our organization, but more importantly, raises awareness of Testicular Cancer to our target demographic – males ages 15-35. I personally look forward to attending the NCCGA National Championship at TPC San Antonio, and will be handing out our educational materials for those who’d like to learn more about this disease.

To get a hole in one, you need to hit a great shot and most importantly be really lucky (and we mean really, really lucky). Do you think you would be able to increase your odds of making a hole in one if you had the right golf equipment? Probably not, but over the last year two members of the Nextgengolf community were able to get a hole in one and attribute some of their luck to new equipment from our friends at Cleveland Golf and Srixon. As any golfer knows, the time they spend practicing the different areas of their game can prove to be very rewarding. But many golfers will go to the range for a day and aimlessly beat golf balls till sunset, believing that they have somehow helped their golf game. That style of practice will make a golfer stagnant in their game, and will cause a great deal of frustration. Without any practice routine or a set of goals to accomplish during a practice session, you will have a hard time finding much improvement.

The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) has officially released its internships for the 2016 spring and summer sessions. It's a great opportunity for current students looking to gain valuable experience in golf.

It's the most wonderful time of the year - the PGA Championship is here, the City Tour Championship is around the corner, and the #TrailToTPC begins in 6 weeks. So in order to celebrate, we're hosting a daily PGA Championship contest and giving away Nextgengolf swag bags (OGIO backpack, a dozen Srixon golf balls, Cleveland Golf hat, and a State Traditions koozie).

Once you turn 18 or graduate high school and plan on continuing the sport of golf, you’re at a dead end for intense competition unless you plan on going pro or are selected to play on a college varsity team (Editors Note: The NCCGA allows you to continue your golf career while in college through competitive non-varsity club golf). You're now too old for the national junior tours, and the charity outings your uncle asks you to play in don’t offer enough competition. Thanks to my current University of Dayton teammate, I was informed of an up and coming community that targeted 18 to 34 year olds with a keen interest in the sport. Having no idea what I was getting in to, I signed up for the Nextgengolf City Tour event in Columbus at New Albany Golf Links.

If you’re like me, you’re always looking for new golf apparel. I’ve gone through countless hat, polo, and jacket brands. There seems to always be one thing about a shirt that I don’t like. Whether it is too many buttons, a collar that crinkles (everyone hates that), or a shirt that just won’t stay tucked in, I have found that the perfect shirt has been nearly impossible to find.

To preface this article, I am probably the worst person to be writing a fashion article given my lack of fashion sense and old school style. Either way, while running Nextgengolf over the last couple years, I have noticed how much young adults love golf socks! Being someone who wears the short ankle socks, and sometimes no socks at all, I did a little bit of research into the golf sock market and below are a few things I learned.

It’s commonplace to read articles popping up on different sites nowadays claiming that golf is dead. Articles filled with hyperbole seeking clicks and readers. It’s no wonder why Men’s Journal recently published an article titled “The Death of Golf”. It’s a big topic that affects millions of people across the US.

My first impression after my initial round using the GolfBuddy WT4 GPS watch – why didn’t I get one of these sooner. I caddied my first round at the local country club when I was 12 years old and caddied there all the way through college, so I have always been old school when it comes to yardages.

Attending school as a PGM major (Professional Golf Management) might seem like a walk in the park to people on the outside looking in. We get asked all the time “Wait, you’re a golf major?” “What do you plan on doing with that?” and most common response I’d hear is “You won’t make good money!” People think that will make us change our mind, but in the long run we will be doing what we love and not sitting behind a desk for the rest of our lives.
