Mizzou Club Golf Overcomes Tough Pins to Clinch Nationals Spot

By Austin Dillard

The NCCGA Central capped off their second Regional Tournament at Falcon Ridge Golf Club in Lenexa, Kansas. Mother Nature gifted us with perfect weather both days with temperatures in the mid-60s and blue skies. Falcon Ridge tipped out at about 6,800 yards on a hilly layout. The course was a very challenging and required well placed tee and approach shots. Out of bounds ran along every hole taking many golf balls throughout the course of the weekend.

The scores were a lot higher compared to our first tournament because of this challenging layout and sloped greens. On the second day of the tournament the big story was the pin location on the 17th hole. The pin was placed in a very unfair position just above a ridge on a very fast green. Following the final round, stories of 4, 5, 6 and even 7 putts poured into the clubhouse. In the end, Missouri’s A team came out on top shooting a combined team score of 805 (+85) for the weekend and clinching a spot in the National tournament after winning both Regional Tournaments. Iowa State A team finished in second shooting a team total of 812 (+92) and also taking second overall in the Central Region. Sean Heuring from South East Missouri State took home Medalist honors shooting 74-77 on the weekend.
