Adapting to a new generation of golfers

Team Traverse Travels to City Tour Championship

By Ben Tyler

Labor Day weekend at Whistling Straits, three weeks before the Ryder Cup with 260 City Tour participants. This is where a group of friends and recent graduates from Baylor University and Navy came together to form “Team Traverse”. After winning the local Dallas City Tour tournament at Cowboys Club, the team of 6 packed their bags and traveled from Texas to Wisconsin.

Mike Koomar, Don Koomar, Liam Diebel, Drake Walker, Dalton Shettle, and Tyler Deering made up the roster for Team Traverse and were fresh off a City Tour Championship victory from the previous year at Kiawah Island. As one of the favorites to repeat in the best ball division, they came in ready to defend their title. The pair of Dalton and Liam who won medalist honors last year started off the first day of competition strong in second place firing an impressive 69 (-3) to help position the team in 4th place. Mike and Tyler also finished the first day in the top 10 with a 74 (+2) to round out the team scoring.

With a little work to do, Team Traverse entered the second and final day of competition 4 strokes behind the leader for the best ball division. Dalton and Liam put together another strong performance shooting another 69 (-3) to earn them second place overall in the pair aspect of the event. Overall Team Traverse was not able to close the gap and defend their title but put together another strong showing with a 5th place finish.
