NCCGA Week 5 Preview

Central

Mizzou enters the weekend looking to keep their central winning streak alive. During the first regional, Kansas came somewhat close to knocking Mizzou off after trailing by only four shots following round one. Mizzou currently holds the top spot in Zone #3 with Kansas coming in as the number three ranked team.

Colonial

Virginia and Liberty tied the first regional tournament, the 6th-man tiebreaker brough a victory to Virginia. Virginia Tech only fell four shots short. Going into the weekend any of the three teams have a strong chance to win the region. Virginia and Liberty are currently in a tie for the top spot in Zone #4, with Virginia Tech in 10th. There are currently 12 teams within a two shot average of each other. Making it the tightest zone in the NCCGA.

Great Lakes

Illinois' debut in the NCCGA was impressive by claiming the first regional title over DePaul. Illinois holds the third best differential in Zone #3, with DePaul in seventh. Judson Bro (Bradley University) enters the weekend as the 10th ranked golfer in the NCCGA. Last time he visited Cantigny GC he took 2nd place.

Metro

Yale claimed the first regional tournament by 28 strokes over Fairfield University. On the individual side, Nick Young from Albany State University took the honors, ranking him currently as the only Metro Region player in the season’s Top 100 player rankings. Nick will be returning this weekend with teams from Yale, CCSU, Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Marist, SCSU, and an individual from Manhattan Golf Club.

Midwest

Michigan was able to edge out Michigan State by 19 during the first regional tournament (unlike the football game last weekend). Michigan currently holds the third spot in Zone #2, with MSU in fifth. The top five teams in Zone #2 will all be teeing it up this weekend.

Northern NE

In stunning fashion BU grabbed tournament 1 at Indian Mound in New Hampshire. Northeastern looks to redeem themselves as they felt they underperformed last time out. UNH, Ecole de Technologie Supérieure, Dartmouth, Fitchburg State, Merrimack, MIT, Plymouth State, UMASS Lowell and UVM will round out the region.

New England

Providence College will be returning this weekend looking to lock up their spot at Nationals, currently holding the second spot in Zone #1 after winning the first regional. Boston College and UConn sit 13 and 21 shots back, respectively. Ray Dimestico of WPI is the second-best ranked player in Zone #1 at 26th.

Northeast

Niagra who took the first tournament will look to sweep the region this season. Saint Bonaventure who came in second last tournament will look to stop Niagra in their tracks. The University of Buffalo, SUNY ESF and SUNY-Cortland will cap off this region. 

Northwest

Oregon looks to continue their winning streak as they have claimed every northwest tournament title since 2015. This weekend they will be teeing it up against Boise State, Central Washington and Washington. The NCCGA is continuing to grow in the Northwest!

Philly

During the first regional tournament a few weeks back Villanova edged out Delaware by 10 shots with Delaware B claiming third place. All three teams are currently ranked in the top four in Zone #2. This weekend's event will be hosted at Seaview Resort (Bay Course) in Atlantic City which hosted the City Tour championship in 2016. Regional Coordinator Blake Reifsynder took home medalist honors that weekend, and will look to improve on his #69 ranking to make it to his third straight National Championship.

Texas

Texas (Austin) was able to end their tournament title drought during the last regional. Shooting 17 over as a team for the weekend, edging out Baylor by two. Texas, Baylor A & B, GAA Dallas and Texas- San Marcos all enter the weekend as top 15 ranked teams in the NCCGA. This weekends tournament will be hosted in North Texas at Cross Timbers Golf Course.
