North Carolina Region Bringing Depth to Club Golf

By Austin Dillard

The North Carolina region is only a few days away from hosting our first tournament at Little River Golf Club in Carthage, NC. This season is looking like it will be a competitive one and I am going to make some predictions as to how teams will finish up.

ECU has been a strong force in the North Carolina region for the past few seasons due to their junior and senior leadership and experience. Though they have lost some of that experience, I still see ECU putting up good numbers this season. UNC-Wilmington had a strong spring and they are returning two of the top individuals.

Little is known about some of the additions to our region. UNC-Charlotte, Campbell and the Wake Forest Men’s Team could be the surprise teams for this fall. I still see UNC and NC State having good years, as both teams have built steady, solid programs over the past several years.

My projection is that UNC-W and UNC will make it to the national tournament at Myrtle Beach this year by finishing #1 and #2 in the region. Due to the region’s depth and competitiveness, I like two additional teams—ECU and NC State—to make it to Nationals in the “wild card” spot.

The season is lining up to be another exciting and special one and there is a lot of golf to be played. I wish all the teams the best but must say, go ‘Heels!
