Everyone can use a little golf help

This interview was conducted by Kris Hart, the CEO of Nextgengolf with an NCCGA Student Leader Adam Englehorn from the University of Idaho PGM program in September 2015. The goal of this interview is to provide a real perspective for high school students thinking about entering college for professional golf management.

We wanted to get to know a few of the team captains that have organized and led their team all the way to the City Tour Championship at Cog Hill in a couple weeks. Here was have the Team Captain - Alec Shanahan - of the Northeastern Huskies from Boston.

The inaugural Nextgengolf City Tour Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club will officially kick off on Friday, September 18th. Players from across the country will be traveling to Chicago to represent their city to claim top honors for the summer of 2015. Players will have the opportunity to compete on professional quality golf courses, experience one of the most enjoyable cities in the summer time, and meet other 18-34 year olds who love the game of golf.

We understand that PGA Professionals have a difficult job - 5:00 am mornings, 80 hour workweeks, weekly tournaments, and tending to members are just a few of the many responsibilities that you may have. Assistant golf professionals have an especially difficult job since they are working really hard towards building a career in golf. This article is meant for any PGA Professional, but applies most to Assistant Professionals looking to achieve two goals: increasing their income and becoming a head golf professional at a great golf facility.

To get a hole in one, you need to hit a great shot and most importantly be really lucky (and we mean really, really lucky). Do you think you would be able to increase your odds of making a hole in one if you had the right golf equipment? Probably not, but over the last year two members of the Nextgengolf community were able to get a hole in one and attribute some of their luck to new equipment from our friends at Cleveland Golf and Srixon. Wow. What a great last couple of weekends. And I’m not just talking about the PGA Championship. Both tours (PGA and LPGA) had amazing tournaments, and the City Tour saw some great play in its final weekend. Since I believe chivalry isn’t dead (just on life-support) I’m going to start with the women.

As any golfer knows, the time they spend practicing the different areas of their game can prove to be very rewarding. But many golfers will go to the range for a day and aimlessly beat golf balls till sunset, believing that they have somehow helped their golf game. That style of practice will make a golfer stagnant in their game, and will cause a great deal of frustration. Without any practice routine or a set of goals to accomplish during a practice session, you will have a hard time finding much improvement.

We made it! The final Sunday of the Nextgengolf City Tour has come and gone with seven (7!) tournaments taking place and a number of National Championship bids up for grabs. Let’s run through the results.

The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) has officially released its internships for the 2016 spring and summer sessions. It's a great opportunity for current students looking to gain valuable experience in golf.

It's the most wonderful time of the year - the PGA Championship is here, the City Tour Championship is around the corner, and the #TrailToTPC begins in 6 weeks. So in order to celebrate, we're hosting a daily PGA Championship contest and giving away Nextgengolf swag bags (OGIO backpack, a dozen Srixon golf balls, Cleveland Golf hat, and a State Traditions koozie).

Working at a golf course is by far the greatest summer job for high school and college students. Golf is a game of respect, integrity, and honesty. Not only do you get to spend your days outside in a beautiful sanctuary that is a golf course, but those working at the course or country club practice those morals too. Along with developing one’s character, working at golf clubs also allows people to develop relationships and make connections to professionals in all fields.

It’s finally that time of the summer when teams start punching their tickets to the City Tour National Championship at Cog Hill. With only two cities competing this past weekend a couple teams had first crack at locking up their bids to take on the nation’s best City Golfers.
