The golf industry as a whole is very short sighted. The typical owner, manufacturer, and PGA professional are focused on the 50 year old male golfer who is going to buy clubs, balls, take a lesson, and play on weekend mornings. Naturally these are the players who keep the lights on, but what if you could increase revenue with other age cohorts who want to spend and are your best advocates?

The Clemson Tigers out dueled the Georgia Bulldogs at the NCCGA National Championship in Myrtle Beach this past weekend. Both teams finished in the top ten, with Clemson tying East Tennessee State and Miami of Ohio for seventh place (+77, 797), while Georgia was two shots back in tenth place (+79, 799). There was a distinguishable gap between the top five teams and sixth place on down the leaderboard. Nonetheless, Clemson and Georgia can both state their claim as solid club golf teams with room to improve.

With Nationals around the corner, it’s time to take a closer look at what the Southeast Region will bring to the table when the first tee shots are struck at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach. The region had a strong showing this season from several players individually, especially Rhoades Sturkie of Georgia Tech, while the Clemson and Georgia teams showed the consistency necessary to earn a nationals bid. Given that this was Georgia’s first season with a club golf team competing in the NCCGA, their stellar play was extremely impressive.
