Where college students go for golf

5 Reasons to Play in the 2013 CGP Fall Collegiate Open

By Kris Hart

With students settling back into campus and classes starting, college golfers are frequently hitting the links with their CGPs across the country. Although we've expanded a lot over the past year in broadening our course network, we love sticking to our Boston roots and are gearing up for our 2013 Fall Collegiate Open at Putterham Meadows in Brookline, MA.

There are a number of reasons the CGP team is pumped about this event, but below are 5 key reasons to sign up:

  1. The 2012 Fall Collegiate Open was our biggest tournament with 90+ players, can we top it?
  2. You can't beat fall golf in New England; it's the most picturesque time to play (this picture was snapped our final fall event last year at Putterham)Fall Golf
  3. It's the 100th anniversary of Francis Ouimet's US Open victory, the greatest underdog story in sports history. Francis Ouimet is a role model and icon for all of us young golfers for the way he conducted himself on and off the course. CGP Founders Kris Hart and Mike Belkin both received the Francis Ouimet Scholarship and met fundraising in the annual Ouimet Marathon. The USGA honored Francis' victory as well by hosting the 2013 US Open at "The Country Club" in Brookline. Check out this blog article for more on our ties to Ouimet.
  4. 2-person scramble format. You and your partner pick the best shot and play from there - #GoLow. We get quite creative on formats and like to go beyond just standard stroke play.
  5. Win great prizes from Cleveland/Srixon Golf, 5hour Energy, Golfsmith, and more...
