Where college students go for golf

Thomas Byrne is a senior at the University of Miami (OH), serving as the President of the school's Club Golf team as well as an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity on campus. Byrne said being a member of both has been great because he gets the best of both worlds.

With 25 tasteful #ClubGolf tweets and Instagram posts in September, Iowa State Club golf took home the #ClubGolf September prize of a Cleveland Wedge and 8 NCCGA #PLAYER shirts. In the months of October and November we will be awarding two other teams #ClubGolf monthly awards.

Having officially launched our #ClubGolf contest last week, we thought it made sense to share the top 5 #ClubGolf tweets we've seen thus far. And in case you haven't heard, each month we'll be selecting a winning team that best shares their #ClubGolf experiences using the team twitter and/or instagram accounts.

#ClubGolf entails more than competitive tournaments; it unites college golfers and creates lifelong friendships and memories. Whether it’s a first hole-in-one, low round, or your first par, the number of students experiencing and defining #ClubGolf is growing every day.

Pace of Play is a serious problem in college golf. Unlike other golf “issues” such as how big the cup should be or what tees golfers of different calibers play from, everyone agrees when it comes to Pace of Play; we need faster rounds of golf.

With the addition of five new regions—Twin Cities, Philadelphia, Southern Connecticut, Pacific, and the Ozark—we’ll now have 27 regions for the fall 2014 semester. With new regions comes new rivalries (and old ones potentially lost) and most importantly, more college golfers getting the opportunity to experience competitive golf.

Every Civil Engineering student at Umass Lowell must take a Senior Capstone class in order to graduate. Capstone normally entails a group of students working together to complete a design project that encompasses all of the aspects and skills they have learned throughout their engineering schooling. It's a year-long class that everyone dreads taking because it is a large amount of work to design something that won't ever actually be created.

As a follow-up story to Cormac Kelly’s blog post on caddying as a summer job, I wanted to share about my experiences as a caddy this summer and what I learned about the similarities between different types of college golfers.

If you look at our map of NCCGA college golf teams, you may be surprised at how east-coast centric our player base is. The NCCGA originated in the Southeast and has expanded rapidly over the past year into Central, Northwest, and Southwest. Leading the charge for us in our Pacific Region is Adam Englehorn, recipient of the 2014 spring Regional Coordinator of the semester award. We caught up with him on his summer plans and goals for the fall 2014 semester.

After nearly 10 years of caddying, I have been the beneficiary of some of the great perks that caddying has to offer. While there are many perks to the job, I have narrowed them down to four of the best:

Fundraising can often be the biggest headache for a new president or an existing team. Many of our teams, however, find creative ways to raise money each semester and most of them do not take much time or effort. Fundraising can be intimidating at first, but if it is done right you can raise hundreds or thousands of dollars for your team.

We work hard to grow college golf at the NCCGA, yet the biggest way we start new club golf teams is by students sharing NCCGA with their own friends. For that reason, NCCGA's Refer-A-Friend this fall rewards our members for sharing the wonderful game of golf we all love.
