Cal-Berkeley returns to Nationals after 2 1/2 year hiatus

By Meghan Zech

The only previous time the University of California – Berkeley made an appearance at Nationals was the fall season of 2016 where they tied for 23rd place. They are back again this weekend, and looking to make their mark in St. Louis.

Over the weekend of March 4th and 5th this season during their first regional tournament, the team beat Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo by four strokes at the Chuck Corica Golf Complex in Alameda, California. Tanner Choate led the team with eight over par for both days. Emma Vickery came in fifth overall and second for the team, shooting a consistent 77 each day. Daniel Berkson, Melissa Yao and Andrew Boka came in next for Berkeley with 14,15, and 16 over par, respectively.

In their second regional tournament this season, Berkeley fell to second place behind Cal Poly, but thankfully still made the cut for Nationals. Dominic Driscoll, Sam Deverett and Daniel Berkson led the team that weekend of April 7-8 in Pacific Grove, California at Pacific Grove Golf Links.

Berkeley is the only coed team attending nationals with girls Melissa Yao and Emma Vickery competing.
