Where college students go for golf

My name is Brandon Harrold and I am the new president of the NCCGA. I am very passionate about the #clubgolf movement and the impact it has on its golfers. As the president for 2015, I will act as the voice of the 10,000+ college golfers around the nation. I will listen to your opinions, comments, and concerns in hopes to make a better all-around experience for you. In addition to this, I will be working with our student leader team and twenty-eight regional coordinators to ensure a successful season.

Over the past few years, the NCCGA has transitioned from a small organization to having a strong nationwide presence. As an organization, they are dedicated to providing competitive golf for students at an affordable cost. Through unwavering passion, the NCCGA has become a great resource for college golfers and young professionals alike.

The NCCGA hosted more than 100 club golf tournaments in 2014 from California to Massachusetts, and everywhere in between. At the end of the year we looked back at the Top 10 courses that hosted a 2014 NCCGA tournament on our Instagram account. Golf is a notoriously a male dominated sport, but Eva Warburg, Alexa Douglas, and the Bentley Women’s College Golf Club team won’t be intimidated. This spring the team will be making their NCCGA debut in the New England Region, and want to prove that golf is not just for men, joining Wake Forest and Marquette in fielding a men's and women's college golf club team.

While it may feel like the NCCGA season is right around the corner, there’s still time to improve your game before the college golf season begins. While for most people this means grabbing their golf clubs and heading out to the range or first tee, there's another method that can help you improve your game. You don't even have to pick up a club for it to work either.

Olivia de Fouchier is the President of the Wake Forest Women's College Golf Club team, one of only a few all-women college golf club teams in the NCCGA. The participation of female golfers is rising though with at least two more teams expected in the Spring season.

At the end of each year, the NCCGA leadership team evaluates how we can improve the organization. One of the things I felt we could do to improve our tournaments and create a consistent experience across the country was to introduce a new student leadership position – the NCCGA Director of Tournament Operations.

I know it will be valuable to have a student well versed in running tournaments contribute to our tournament vision and be the student lead for running our National Championships.

This past weekend, the Providence College Golf team finished fifth overall at Dancing Rabbit, capping off what has been an incredible season for both the team and the NCCGA as a whole. After winning both their regional tournaments in stunning fashion, the Friars earned their well deserved national bid and a chance to make the #RoadtoRabbit down to Mississippi.

With potentially over 20 teams competing in our New England Region this fall, we explored the possibility to start a Southern New England Region to accommodate new teams starting up in Connecticut. With teams such as UCONN and Quinnipiac coming together in early September just before our first Student tournaments, we needed someone to step up and be the Student Ambassador to help these new teams get involved. Joe Catalina of Southern Connecticut willingly stepped up and ran two fantastic tournaments this fall.

Corey Stamper found out about the Clemson college golf club team at the beginning of the semester by simply looking it up online and sending an e-mail to President Johnny Garstka. The junior finished the season by firing a 5-under 67 to win the rain-shortened 2014 Fall National Championship at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club.

Golf is more than a sport, we love to say, it's the game of life. Those words which are Mantra for organizations such as the First Tee ring true to me stepping back from fall 2014 Nationals. Be it the gentlemanly acts of sportsmanship, perseverance through difficult weather, organization of our student leadership team, or opportunity to experience new cultures, I learned a lot at Dancing Rabbit.

The Clemson University club golf team set a number of goals long before the Fall 2014 NCCGA National Championship was set to begin.

The first: Win the Ryder Cup match versus rival Georgia. That goal was not fulfilled.

The second: Win both Regionals and earn a Nationals bid.

Check.

Philadelphia, MS — The National Collegiate Club Golf Association (NCCGA) will host its ninth version of the National Championship on November 15-16, 2014 at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. 28 teams and 16 individuals from around the nation will travel to Mississippi to battle for team and individual club golf supremacy in a 36-hole event. Players will compete on Dancing Rabbit’s Azaleas and Oaks courses, two of the finest public courses in the nation, according to multiple golf publications.
