Everyone can use a little golf help

2012 Master’s Champion Bubba Watson is currently--as a typical college student might say--“killing it”. While unfortunately, his 2013 PGA Tour campaign may not be up to par with what he had hoped for, off the course Bubba has been living the dream for the past few years and apparently doesn’t want to slow down any time soon.

Every year competitive high school golfers need to make choices. Do I go play varsity golf at a small school that will accept me on the team or do I attend my dream school where I cannot make the varsity golf squad? Unless you are one of the top collegiate players in the country, the chances of making the PGA Tour and playing golf professionally are slim to none.Why not have your cake and eat it too?

Like many golfers, I was unable to draw the ball for the first year of my golfing career. I tried everything from aiming left to violently flipping my hands over at impact, only to watch each ball sail to the right.

I’m the type of guy who is always searching for ways to improve my golf game. After every round I play, I sit down and look at my scorecard figuring out what I need to improve on to shave a few strokes.

Attack Angle is defined as the vertical (up-down) angle at which the club head is moving at impact. Positive means hitting up on the ball while negative means hitting down on the ball.

In order to hit the ball as far as possible, a golfer must find the optimal combination of ball speed, launch angle and spin rate. Simply stated, the farthest drives are hit with a high launch angle and a low spin rate with contact made in the center of the clubface. By simply hitting up on the ball with the driver, the ball launches higher, while the spin rate stays the same thus allowing the ball to go further.

Winning your first PGA Tour event is a major stepping-stone in every professional golfer’s journey toward greatness. On Sunday at the John Deere Classic, 19-year-old former U Texas star Jordan Spieth drained a two-foot putt for par on the 5^th playoff hole, leading him to the winners circle at a younger age than Tiger, Phil, Rory, and Rickie in becoming the youngest player to win a PGA Tour event in 82 years.

ESPN has provided "tastefully" nude photos of the iconic Gary Player and beautiful Carly Booth in their annual body issue. While I have zero interest in looking at anyone in the nude who is old enough to be my Gramps, I have to give credit to Player who at age 77 is proving that all of those push ups and sit ups have paid off. As for Carly Booth--the 21-year-old beautiful Scottish golfer ranked 178 in the world--thanks, and welcome to the world of pop culture.

Ball flight laws have changed significantly during the past fifteen years. While TrackMan and scientific research have taught us specifics on how the ball flies, there are still many people who believe in debatable ball flight laws.
