Adapting to a new generation of golfers

PGA Member volunteer opportunities with Nextgengolf

By Matt Weinberger

Volunteers at major golf tournaments are a must. Nextgengolf, a subsidiary of the PGA of America, operates events throughout the year at hundreds of course nationwide. We run championships for high school, collegiate, and young adult golfers at some of the countries top golf facilities.

If you are a current PGA Member, Nextgengolf offers many volunteering opportunities. Members receive MSR credits in the service category for volunteering at all events – 1 credit per hour of participation with up to 8 credits per day entered via the Member online input. Here are some of the ways you can volunteer with Nextgengolf:

Pace of Play and Live Scoring volunteers - Paramount to the success of any large-scale event is pace-of-play (Nextgengolf national events range from 200-350 players). We typically place our pace of play volunteers every 3 holes at our national events to help identify gaps between groups or report back groups that are properly “in position”. Additionally, these volunteers use the Nextgengolf proprietary scoring software to enter in live scoring for groups coming to their hole. Prior to each national event, training takes place to ensure the volunteers are comfortable with the software and have all of the information relative to expected pace of play.

Rules officials - If you have experience officiating events, you may volunteer as a Rules Official. You will work hand-in-hand with the Nextgengolf operations team, the course PGA Professional, and the other volunteer Rules Officials to monitor all play and be a part of the event Committee. We have worked with Rules Officials where this was their first national event and have also worked with seasoned veterans with over 25 years under their belt.
