The NCCGA’s Capitol Region finished its second regional tournament this past weekend at Forest Greens Golf Club in Triangle, VA. At only 6377 yards, the course was not particularly long. It played to a rating of 71.3 and a slope of 139. It certainly had challenging characteristics and pin positions proved to be difficult.

You cannot beat fall golf in New England especially when playing a beautiful course out in the mountains of Western Massachusetts, a hot spot for leaf peepers. The course was tough, competition was strong and weather was perfect for the second New England Regional event at Cold Spring Country Club in Belchertown, MA. The heavy favorite, Providence College secured their first trip to Nationals.

Campbell Club Golf Clinches Spot to Nationals

The North Carolina Region hosted its second club golf tournament of the fall 2013 semester at Carolina National Golf Club in Bolivia, NC on October 12-13. The field was a bit smaller at this tournament because, unfortunately, the tournament fell over fall break for some schools. We played two of Carolina National’s three 9-hole courses, the Egret course and the Heron course. The tees were a mix of black and gold that made the course play about 6,800 yards.

The Stage is Set in the Midwest

We saw the last Midwest regional come down to the wire and this weekend, at Eagle Crest, the stakes are even higher. Last month, Michigan broke away from their overnight lead with Ohio State to take the victory, while Miami of Ohio climbed all the way to second place after some great Sunday finishes. After the first regional, the Nationals picture has Michigan with 6 points, Miami with 3 points and OSU with 1 point.

It was a weekend filled with rain, wind, and cold weather for the first ever NCCGA Northeast regional tournament. Being held in East Syracuse at the Links of Erie Village, all five of the competing teams knew that the weather could potentially be an issue, especially in October. Considering that some of the teams had never played each other before, neither team really knew what to expect.

WF's Bina, Campbell Outlast Strong NC Region

The North Carolina Region hosted its first tournament of the fall 2013 semester at Little River Golf Club in Carthage, NC on September 20-21. A large number of teams were able to attend this event held near historic Pinehurst. UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, Elon, NC State, ECU, Campbell, High Point University, and Wake Forest University’s Men’s and Women’s teams were able to attend, making a field of 10 schools.

Morningstar Golfer’s Club, Waukesha, WI--The inaugural NCCGA Great Lakes season came to an end this past weekend with Notre Dame claiming the rain-shortened weekend, but Purdue earning a trip to nationals. After completing roughly three holes on Saturday afternoon, thunderstorms and standing water throughout the course led to a cancellation of round one, meaning the tournament would consist of only 18 holes on Sunday.
