Where college students go for golf

Nextgengolf and the NCCGA finds four dedicated Student Leaders every year to work with our team to help grow club golf. This years leaders exceeded expectations and helped make club golf a better experience for college teams. Here is a little bit about each of their experiences. 

Myrtle Beach, SC - The Fall 2018 NCCGA National Championship and National Invitational returned to Barefoot Resort for the second time on November 16th-18th. The beautiful weather and fantastic competition made this one of the best Nationals ever, below are some of the highlights from the weekend.

The NCCGA welcomes the University of Kansas to its first ever appearance to Nationals! After grinding through the season in Zone 3’s Central region, the Jayhawks held their beaks high hoping for that exhilarating bid to Nationals. The first regional tournament showed promise for this group of boys that knew they had an uphill battle to Myrtle. Wolf Hollow Golf Club treated Kansas’ A team well after beating Mizzou in a scorecard playoff for first place, and securing six points in the region! 

Another NCCGA season is in the books, and an exciting Nationals weekend is just ahead. Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach will host the National Championship and National Invitational November 16-18th. The resort is highly regarded as one of the best in the state of South Carolina, and Barefoot's four courses are designed by famous golf architects Davis Love, Greg Norman, Tom Fazio, and Pete Dye. 

It's no secret that club golf is not just for fun, but is very competitive and full of good scores. With the season ending and Nationals approaching quickly, let’s take a look back at some record breaking scores posted during the fall season. 

As the Club President of Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo, I have experienced lots of success in my efforts to grow the club golf program at our university. Most of our club’s success has been a result of marketing ourselves out to the student body along with the strategic design of our membership system. 

n Friday November 16th, 2018 the NCCGA staff is proud to host the 2nd annual Careers in Golf Networking event at NCCGA Nationals. If you are a student looking for an internship or seeking part time, full time, or volunteer work in the golf industry, the NCCGA staff is dedicated to helping college-aged golfers succeed off the course. The goal of the event is to educate students on careers in golf including full time positions in marketing, sales, finance, management, operations, teaching, and engineering. For those students who are freshman, sophomores and juniors, there are hundreds of golf internships available nationally in golf.

It’s that time of the season when Nationals bids are being distributed across the country. Hopefully everybody had a great fall season, and we look forward to seeing many of you at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach. With only one week of regional tournaments left, we are in the home stretch so gear up for one last battle! Here's how we see the final tournaments of the season shaking out. 

We are now less than a month away from Nationals in Myrtle beach after eleven regions competed in regional tournaments last weekend. The University of Wisconsin took home the team of the week with a two day score of 737 and the player of the week was Zach Murphy from Texas State University at San Marcos who ended up -2. Nine regions will be competing October 20-21 and making final efforts to qualify for Nationals, so it’s sure to be an exciting weekend. 

Week 5 is here and we are just over a month away from Nationals in Myrtle Beach. The field is beginning to fill up as a few teams secured their spot this past weekend. Eleven regions are competing this weekend across the nation, and for many it's the final regional tournament of the semester. That means some strong competition as teams fight for a bid to Nationals. 

Are you a club golfer interested in playing varsity golf? As a college golf consultant and club golf outsider, I’ve watched the growth, strong participation and competition of the NCCGA become better over the last few years. It is clear to me that there are some student athletes who currently play NCCGA club golf who maybe have other options, either at their current institution or maybe even at another college. For any individuals who are thinking about this transition, the NCCGA has asked me to provide some basic guidance on the transfer process including insight into the NCAA rules and regulations and advice on best practices.

The NCCGA continues its partnership with SCNS Foods to provide 1st and 10th tee bars to players at every single NCCGA tournament. The purpose is to provide healthy snacks on the course for our players, while helping promote a healthy food brand. 

The fourth weekend of regional tournaments has arrived, which means we have reached the halfway mark of the regular season. At this point, the Fall 2018 rankings are looking really tight, with the Gators sitting at the top with an impressive cumulative differential of -4.27. The only other team with an under par differential is GCU with a -1.32, but a slew of other teams are putting up impressive numbers as well including Illinois and Georgia.

Nine regions are competing this weekend, with some regions hosting their first tournament and others playing in their last. Best of luck to all of you trying to solidify a spot at the top.

 Quite a few upsets last weekend in many of the regions where there was an obvious favorite. It just shows how no one can be counted out of a run to the top. This weekend there are 11 regions competing and many of the tournaments are a toss-up, with team and player of the week honors also up for grabs. Who will join Georgia and Florida as the best teams of this young season? Here's a preview of what to expect this weekend. 

Hopefully everyone is okay after Hurricane Florence laying waste to the Carolinas. Myrtle Beach survived the hit, and Barefoot is open and ready for the NCCGA to come in November.
