Where did all the hype of Srixon come from?

Over the last two years Srixon has taken over the golf industry, getting involved with the pros, juniors, and various amateur events with the main focus of helping people switch to better. I am one of those lucky people to have been gifted with the opportunity to try switching to better.

One of the first lessons you'll typically learn when first beginning to golf is how to properly grip a golf club. However, for those that learned on their own, or grew up gripping the club a certain way, re-learning the proper golf grip can be difficult. It's a problem I've struggled with myself. The good thing though is that there are no shortage of resources available to help teach the correct way, as well as tips and tricks to help you remember it the next time you are on the golf course.

As the CEO of Nextgengolf, I often get emails from young adults in our community asking me about the best private golf clubs to join in the Boston area, which clubs are looking for junior members or if we have any tips for joining a private golf club. I’ve never been a member of a private golf club, but am fortunate to have many friends who have invited me as their guest.

A popular golf expression is "Drive for Show, Putt for Dough". It's used quite often to show that while the longest hitters might get the most attention, the golfers with the best putter tend to win more (and on the PGA Tour, that means more money). It's intended to show just how important the short game is to your overall golf game. After all, bombing a drive 400 yards means nothing if you land off the green and struggle getting it the rest of the way in the hole.

Oftentimes we attribute poor performance to negative thinking. In Jason Siff’s book “Thoughts are not the Enemy”, he describes a meditation practice that welcomes thought and allows for our minds to wander instead of trying to control or change what we think. It’s a drastic shift from the more traditional mindfulness practices that instruct us to simply be aware of thought and the wandering mind in a non-judgmental way, and when it does wander, for us to guide our attention back to our breath, a mantra, or some other type of anchor. In essence, to stop our thinking before it overtakes us.

We all love team golf! Whether you are playing with a partner against two other golfing buddies on the weekend, or part of a larger team playing in a Ryder Cup format event, team golf is a lot of fun. Just ask Brian Costa from the Wall Street Journal who recently wrote a great piece about team golf.  

If a golf ball is scuffed during play, a golfer will replace it with a new one. Many golfers change the grips on their golf clubs after a few rounds. Golf gloves are replaced almost as frequently as a player changes their socks. All of these items are replaced when the golfer feels that changing them will improve his/her game. Why not change your spikes? Would you drive your car on bald tires?

Finishing up another weekend of the Nextgengolf City Tour action in the heat of the summer,  you may need some extra motivation to skip out on the beach to hit a few balls (and make sure your next round goes as planned). Do you love going to a golf driving range? Banging balls at the range is fun especially if you are doing it at a Topgolf where you are listening to music and enjoying some drinks. For the range goers who are serious about their practice sessions and more importantly the average golfer that is going to a golf driving range for fun, below are 4 simple must dos for every practice session.

Who doesn't love playing a new golf course for the first time? The thrill of arriving to the course, hitting the practice green, and the surprises you see on every hole as you attempt to conquer it for the first time. But so often we find a golf course we enjoy, and just keep playing at the same one over and over.

Over the past ten years, the use of handheld laser rangefinders has increased dramatically.  The USGA approved the usage of non-sloped laser rangefinders a number of years ago if defined as a local rule, but they continue to allow them in more and more local and national tournaments including national amateur championships starting in 2014. Before you know it, you might be seeing laser rangefinders during actual competition on the PGA Tour (though not yet). The NCCGA and City Tour allow them during tournaments, as well as most junior tours.

Whether you are a college student or young professional, the summer is the perfect time for golf. The weather is (usually) great, schedules are more relaxed, and everyone is just in the golf mood. But finding good summer golf tournaments can be difficult... unless you know where to look.

Do you hate playing golf alone? Yeah, me too. Playing golf with great people can make or break whether you enjoy your golf experience or not. Golf Digest recently wrote about the 8 worst things about playing golf alone. Since most of us can only play a limited number of rounds during the year, playing with enjoyable people is a requirement for a weekend round. If you are a golfer like me that strives to improve your game, here are 3 reasons why playing golf by yourself once per month can really help your golf game.

As a Nextgengolf City Leader for the 2016 City Tour season, I was presented with the opportunity to be an ambassador for Cleveland and Srixon Golf, which was accompanied by the chance to put 14 shiny new clubs into play. Being a college student and an extreme golfer, the idea of free and golf together was mind blowing. The weeks that came later were filled howwith research and planning as to which clubs I would select.

A few short weeks after the order, the clubs arrived. Miraculously they arrived on my last day at school for spring break, 45 minutes before I left for home. The Delaware club golf team takes a trip to Myrtle Beach each year for spring break which was a perfect opportunity to put the clubs in play before our first tournament the following weekend. My first round with them took me about 3 swings before I was sold on the clubs. Everything about them makes a player exude confidence when standing over any shot. The look, feel, consistency, and performance is enough to quickly turn any critic into a believer.

The first tournament arrived for our team. Along with our event came the worst possible weather, high temps of 40 degrees with wind gusts that exceeded the temperature. The new clubs and ball performed as exceptionally as my golf game allowed. Playing in this wind made me realize how much more my old ball and club combo was affected by wind. The end result was a 9th place finish and a team finish of 2nd, 3 shots back.
