Where college students go for golf

The NCCGA has been rapidly growing over the last few years and helping thousands of college students get out on the course. Our mission is to ensure every college student golfer has a place to play golf while in school. The foundation to a great club golf team is a strong leader and club president for the team. The good news is that big schools like Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, Navy, Airforce, Marshall, Temple, University of Washington, UNC Charlotte, Utah, Princeton, Kansas State, and St. Johns all recently got new leaders who are working on forming clubs on their campus. Unfortunately, the schools below do not have club golf leaders or teams on campus. Do you know any friends on these campuses that might want to play club golf?

As a former club golfer, I competed in four NCCGA National Championships and know the significance of qualifying for the coveted season-ending nationals. In May, we announced the proposed changes to the Fall 2017 NCCGA National Championship qualifying procedures. Since thenthe NCCGA staff has been collecting feedback via surveys, emails, calls, and texts. I have spoken with many club golfers to get their input on these changes and two questions have come up time and time again, “Why can’t we keep the old system?” and “how does this affect my team?”

Entering the weekend, not many people gave the Georgia Club Golf team a chance to win. Despite entering the NCCGA National Championship as the defending champions, the Bulldogs had lost both regional tournaments, were ranked #58, and were only bringing 7 people to Hot Springs Country Club. The odds and momentum were stacked against them.

The main concern entering Round 1 of the 2017 Spring NCCGA National Championship was pretty simple: Would 18 holes be possible? The weather forecast looked rough, with calls for rain and thunderstorms starting in the early afternoon. At the end of the day everyone was not only able to play 18 holes, but the sun was even a participant for a little while, with rain intermittently.

Ohio University club golf is heading to the NCCGA National Championship for the first time in club history. I know that because I started the club back in my sophomore year, 2012. To say I’m happy is an understatement, but I know it means much more to the boys on the team now.

The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill club golf team has come a long way to get to the National stage.

The 2017 Spring NCCGA National Championship will bring together 32 of the best club golf teams from across the country. The Northeast Region has and always will be, one of the toughest regions to compete in the NCCGA during the spring season. With temperatures rarely rising above freezing in the weeks before the first tournament and late snowstorms a surprising, yet common, occurrence teams have little opportunity to get a real practice on the course. When they do finally get out for a few holes it is on a course with shaggy grass and wet lies.

In their first semester as an official club sport on campus, the future is looking bright for Florida State Club Golf as they head to Arkansas for their 3rd straight NCCGA National Championship appearance.

It has been a season full of firsts for the University of Central Florida:

• First regional tournament victory
• First overall region win
• First time going to Nationals

Southern Connecticut State University is aiming straight for Arkansas and ready to make moves in their first NCCGA National Championship appearance.

We are excited to head to Hot Springs Country Club in Arkansas for the Spring 2017 NCCGA National Championship. At 256 players it'll be the largest college golf tournament in the country. 42 colleges will be represented, spanning from New Hampshire to California. To help prepare for the championship, we wanted to take a deeper look at Hot Springs Country Club and the surrounding area.

The University of Florida club golf team is no stranger to the NCCGA National Championship. The Gators claimed the title in the Spring 2015 season, are headed to Arkansas for their 6th straight appearance, having qualified for every single National Championship since their founding in Fall 2014.

The Georgia Bulldogs club golf team enters the Spring 2017 NCCGA National Championship at Hot Springs this weekend as defending champs, looking to become the first team to win consecutive titles since East Carolina in 2011

The Michigan State club golf team will be making their first trip to the NCCGA National Championship since Spring 2015 at Bryan Park, after a strong performance this semester that concluded with two 2nd place finishes and an average team score of 384.

Entering regional #2 at the Michigan State home course, the Spartans were in a prime position to lock up the automatic bid with a win, after losing by just 1 stroke the weekend before. During the week leading up to the tournament, Mother Nature took action and dropped more than 5 inches of snow.
