Where college students go for golf

Oregon club golf is back at the NCCGA National Championship for the 3rd time in only four semesters of existence.

The team has been perennial champions of the Northwest Region since the team formed, and they always maintain high expectations. Kevin Mackin is the co-founder and Regional Coordinator for the Northwest Region while CJ Sitton is the co-founder and current club president of the team.

For Tulsa, no dream is too small when it comes to playing golf. After the University of Tulsa decided to cut its long time men’s varsity team, some students who played golf were left with nowhere to play.

Luckily, sophomore Matt Wells stepped in this summer and founded the club golf team on campus.

The Northern Colorado team turned two years old this fall, and to celebrate they are heading to their first ever NCCGA National Championship.

Tanner Brown is the club team’s president and co-founder. Brown made the decision to give up his pursuit of playing collegiate baseball, and not long afterwards he found an old set of lefty golf clubs in his grandma’s basement.

Michigan club golf has already had a storybook season. Now they are just hoping for the Cinderella finish.

Playing varsity college golf can sometimes mean compromising on academics. After all, there's less time to dedicate to studying and lots of missed class time traveling to tournaments. As with many students that choose to play club golf over varsity, UCLA's Claire Malley chose academics but didn't want to give up on competitive golf.

Shooting two consecutive rounds under par, finishing at -5 in a tournament, is a pipe dream for most golfers. It's a weekend that most would dream about but never come true. But for Tyler Ware of Texas State-San Marcos, that type of weekend was a reailty this season, and it helped propel him to two medalist finishes in the Texas Region, the top-spot in the final NCCGA Player Rankings, and an individual bid to the National Championship. 

That's it! The regional tournament season is officially complete, and the field for the Fall 2016 National Championship is set (almost). It was a small final weekend with only four tournaments taking place on October 29/30, but the ramifications it had on the rest of the country was significant.

Every NCCGA National Championship has something unique to offer.  Whether it is the location, the course itself, or the new ideas and activities built into the weekend, each championship creates unique memories for club golfers each semester. 

The penultimate weekend of club golf saw golfers go low, defending regional champions successfully defend their title, and a couple new teams punch their ticket to the Fall 2016 NCCGA National Championship at Walt Disney World Golf.

Another week of club golf in the books, and one more week until the field for nationals is officially set. Seven more teams punched their ticket to Walt Disney World Resort, while countless others fought hard only to fall short. Congratulations to the winning club teams from this weekend. Atlantic

The second Atlantic Regional event took place at Lakeview Golf Resort in West Virginia. The tough course and conditions led to some struggles, but the Pittsburgh club golf team persevered and emerged victorious with a 38-stroke victory to claim the regional title. Robert Morris University finished in second, and Penn State placed third. Pitt's Sean Weber won individual medalist honors, sweeping both tournaments this season.

Week four of the Fall 2016 NCCGA season saw four teams claim a spot at the National Championship in Disney. Overall eight tournaments went down on October 8/9, four regional finales and four regions just starting their season.

Another week of club golf is in the books, and two teams have officially punched their ticket to the Fall 2016 NCCGA National Championship.

As a college student, the end of summer can be bitter-sweet. It means leaving your summer job and hometown friends for college dorms and 8 am classes. But for those playing NCCGA golf, the end of summer also means a chance to play club golf with friends and teammates that you haven’t seen all summer.

The Fall 2016 NCCGA season kicked off with a bang this past weekend, with 10 tournaments taking place all across the country. 10 teams took the first step in qualifying for the National Championship at Walt Disney World Resort, and many more teams with some ground to make up in the second tournament.
